Jane took an English degree at Lady Margaret Hall Oxford and graduated in 1982. She qualified as a solicitor in 1987 and joined the specialist charity firm Sinclair Taylor and Martin. Jane became a partner in 1995 and a partner in Russell-Cooke in 2003 when the two firms merged.
Jane advises on all aspects of employment law including advice on internal disputes, managing change including restructure, redundancy and the operation of the Transfer of Undertakings (TUPE) Regulations. Jane also defends Employment Tribunal proceedings.
Recent work includes:
- Undertaking HR due diligence in relation to the merger of two national charities providing services to blind people
- Advising a higher education institution on the harmonisation of employment contracts across faculties for full time, fractional and hourly paid lecturers
- Reviewing the employment contracts and staff policies of four merging regeneration charities with a view to future harmonisation
- Successfully defending a higher education institution against whistleblowing claims
- Defending an age discrimination claim relating to retirement under the Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006
- Advising on the restructure of the training and development function of a large religious organisation
Jane is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association and the Charity Law Association. She is a trustee of two charities concerned with children and families.
