Anne Gunther has recently stood down as Chief Executive of Standard Life Bank, prior to taking up a new role. Anne was Chief Executive from January 2002, and in the last year added Chief Executive responsibility for both Standard Life Healthcare and the direct client relationship operations of Standard Life to her portfolio. Between them these businesses comprise the retail elements of Standard Life dealing, in the main, across the full Standard Life product range from personal pensions, investment platforms through to fully flexible offset mortgages. Much of the contact with clients is through internet and telephone with increasing focus on all aspects of e-commerce.
Prior to Standard Life, Anne was Managing Director of Direct Channels, at Lloyds TSB, responsible for the full range of direct channels including the cash machine network. A major focus was transforming the bank’s call centres from cost to income centres, generating £100 million in 2001 whilst establishing a leading internet banking service and building the UK call centre network to support the branches.
Anne’s career in banking began with NatWest, joining as a Graduate Management Trainee in 1976, culminating in head of telephony for the Retail Division. Previous roles were in corporate lending, mortgages, strategy and business development.
Anne graduated from Nottingham University with a degree in physics, holds an MBA from Warwick Business School and Honoury Doctorate from Edinburgh University. The past chairman of the industry body the Council of Mortgage Lenders she sits on the Executive Committee, is an advisory board member for Warwick Business School and a trustee of Arts & Business.
