The first Arts & Business seminar has taken place on the 3rd November and the main topic of conversation emerged as 'How does one diversify what they do yet retain their integrity?' I discuss this with Bill and we agree that the licensing of my designs to commercial fabric / rug manufacturers is a good way for me to diversify without compromise. This process has already begun with Christopher Farr and we discuss who else I can work with in a similar way. I speculate that in a year’s time I want to have initiated 20 fabric designs in production with various manufacturers. I am gradually obtaining the testimonials from various clients and starting to work on a document to 'Quantify the value of Colour'. I discuss branding with Bill, is it possible to become a brand yet retain a sense of CRAFT and CRAFTMANSHIP? He certainly has.... I have met with Iain Foxall, an associate of the Crafted programme, and we have discussed the idea of branding for 'Ptolemy Mann'. Bill gets me to articulate what kind of brand and business do I want to be running? I clarify that I actually don’t ever want to employ masses of people and run a large company but would rather develop the creative aspects of my business, keep hands on and creative but charge more for the work I do. I also meet with Milan Pandya, another associate of the Crafted scheme, he says something very interesting when we meet; he has taken a good look at my website and wonders 'Where I am?' in other words he feels my individual presence is not that clear on the site. After years of thinking I should 'hide' the fact that my company is just me it seems I should be celebrating my name a bit more.

I really do love your fabric

I really do love your fabric designs. I think they would look great in many places in my home. Just out of curiosity, is some of your fabric in
Martha's Vineyard hotel? Some of my friends stayed there a couple of months ago and they said some of it looked familiar. Thanks!
