Ceramics

I live in London and work in an old Victorian workshop near Elephant & Castle. I first became passionate about ceramics while studying in Japan and staying with a family in Tokyo. I recently found out that my great grandmother was a Ridgway, from the family company Ridgway Potteries Ltd, who supplied Queen Victoria. Clay is in the blood!

I make vessels with a dual emphasis on industrial and studio production. Some are overtly useful, but others have a more abstract function in the way they explore material, space and colour through simple cylindrical forms.

I design industrial bone-china which is made by factories in Stoke-on-Trent. I use shapes like beakers, cups and plates and focus on surface patterns with a strong, graphic quality. I use porcelain and luscious glazing for my hand-made studio work in London, much of which is made on the potter’s wheel. These pieces are one-offs and more art than design. A subtle but dynamic use of colour infuses all my work.

My motivation for joining Crafted comes from wanting to be part of a community of individuals who are passionate about innovation and materials, but need a little practical help to reach full potential.
