Eloise Grey seeks a more considered quality that embodies respect for the makers, the land, the art of weaving, tailoring and the process of trying and buying. Eloise works with organic and ethical tweeds and produces a collection of coats and jackets for men and women.
She started making clothes at 10 and at 13 doubled her pocket money by making skirts for a local designer. After studying Italian at university Eloise Grey worked in Italy and South America. Returning to her passion for making, she retrained in design and tailoring whilst juggling a corporate career in London. She launched her collection in 2007 and opened her boutique in Farnham, Surrey and launched her menswear collection in 2009.
Eloise draws on the tailored and couture traditions of earlier generations. Connecting to her Scottish roots, she was inspired by the Isle of Mull Weavers’ organic and ethical undyed tweeds. Her love of reading, writers and artists’ lives inspire her designs.
In May 2008 she won the International Design Awards design competition: Land + Sea. She showed at Origin in October 2008 and then at London Fashion Week in February 2009.
Eloise Grey’s involvement in the mentoring scheme will allow Eloise to develop the market for her clothing. She is keen to develop the product beyond tweed and grow her sales in the UK and abroad and create a bigger market for luxury sustainable clothing.
A keen blogger, Eloise shares her observations in her blog, and her Crafted blog (link below).
