shawstephens - Furniture

I'm a young degree-trained cabinet maker who loves the sea and the soil, and has been lucky enough to set up his own furniture business, shawstephens, in a corner of the South Hams, a part of Devon renowned for its lively estuaries, its narrow lanes and its rolling countryside.

The business itself, which employs 2 skilled makers besides myself, operates in a small but well-equipped workshop in a former winery in Loddiswell. Our aims are to continue producing bespoke furniture in wood to the highest standards for private clients, architects and interior designers, and to develop a professional degree of service which becomes renowned for personal attention to detail throughout the whole commissioning, designing and making process.

The opportunity to take part in this mentoring scheme provided by Crafted has given me the chance to reassess my success to date, and to share my aspirations and future business and production schedule with owners and makers who have proven experience and knowledge in the field. In particular I would value their advice in both the development of 'luxury branding', the skills and expertise required to expose shawstephens to its target audience, and the management of a small successful business which is moving into a competitive niche market.

Edmund Stephens was mentored by Lulu Lytle in 2009-10
